La osteopatía está orientada en la mejora de la salud holística de los pacientes como principal objetivo para abordar muchos de los problemas musculoesqueléticos que van desde un dolor mecánico del raquis cervical al lumbo-sacro, incluyendo condiciones crónicas como procesos de osteoartritis, problemas posturales y enfermedades sistémicas.

El tratamiento osteopático se compone de una serie de metodologías y técnicas médicas especializadas en la terapia manual, que se realizan para aumentar el rango articular y el de isquemia muscular, por lo tanto, reducir el nivel de dolor.

No todas las personas que presentan dolor de espalda tienen un problema en la columna vertebral, ya que otras situaciones pueden producir o imitar el dolor de espalda y cuello. Es muy importante realizar un buen historial clínico para proporcionar el tratamiento más adecuado al problema y esto hace que un diagnóstico preciso sea vital.

Todos pueden beneficiarse de la osteopatía, no solo cuando aparece el dolor. Existe un fuerte argumento a favor de la prevención y el tratamiento a las personas antes de que sientan molestias para asesorarles en sus posturas y ofrecerles ayuda, así como dar consejos sobre su puesto de trabajo y lo que pueden hacer para prevenir lesiones.

¿Hay varias escuelas de pensamiento / técnicas dentro de la Osteopatía?

Aunque en general se puede esperar el mismo tratamiento de todos los profesionales cualificados, cada osteópata trabaja de forma individualizada según su experiencia.

¿Qué requisitos necesitas para trabajar como osteópata en España y Reino Unido?

En el Reino Unido, es ilegal practicar como osteópata a menos que estés graduado en una escuela osteopática legalmente reconocida y tengas las condiciones de entrenamiento más estrictas, durante 4 años a tiempo completo. Esto se rige por el Consejo General de Osteopatía y el Parlamento bajo la Ley de Osteópatas de 1993.

Lamentablemente, en España, la osteopatía aún no es una profesión del todo reconocida. El principal órgano representativo de la osteopatía es la Federación de Osteópatas de España (FEO) que está trabajando para lograr el reconocimiento de la osteopatía en España como una profesión sanitaria primaria e independiente.
